The Multi-Currency Support feature allows donors to input their donation amount in their local currency, while ultimately processing the donation in the nonprofit’s currency. This makes it easier for international donors to contribute without worrying about exchange rates, while the nonprofit receives the donation in their preferred currency (USD or CAD).
During the checkout flow, donors can select their preferred currency for their donation. As a donor goes through the flow, the donor will see the transaction in their local currency. The donation will then be converted to the nonprofit's currency (USD or CAD) based on real-time exchange rate
When multi-currency support is enabled, donors select the currency they prefer to donate in.
By enabling this feature, you enhance donor flexibility and eliminate the complexities of cross-currency transactions.
To enable Multiple Currencies on your checkout, go to the Type tab on your Checkout Element and select Allow donors to input their payment amount in other currencies under the Support Multiple Currencies section.
When going through the checkout flow, donors will be able to select from the currency dropdown and choose their local currency.
This will convert their donation amount into their local currency as they go through the checkout confirmation.
On the "Thank You" screen, donors will see the converted donation amount, showing how much the nonprofit actually received in their preset currency (USD or CAD), ensuring transparency in the transaction. For example, a donor giving 10 EUR will see the amount converted to USD if that is the nonprofit’s currency.
The converted donation amount will then be visible in the nonprofit's designated currency in the WeGive dashboard.
