Messages in WeGive are a versatile way to connect with your supporters through one-time or automated communications. Whether you're sending an email, text message, handwritten letter, or in-platform message, the Messages tab enables you to create and manage your supporter engagement. This feature ensures timely and effective communication, whether you're responding to donor actions or reaching out proactively.
How to Manage Messages in WeGive
Overview:
Messages in WeGive allow you to create and send communications to supporters, either as one-time messages or automated triggered messages.
Let's get started!
Step 1: Access the Messages Tab
- Navigate to the Engagement tab in your WeGive dashboard.
- Select the Messages tab.
Step 2: Create a New Message
- Click the blue + icon to create a new message.
- Choose the type of message:
- Regular Message: A standalone email or text message.
- Triggered Message: An automated message linked to donor actions.
- Supporter Journey: Create a series of messages and actions for donor engagement. Clicking Supporter Journey will navigate you away from the Message editor to the Journey editor section.
- Within these message types, you can choose

- Plain Text Email: A simple email format that contains only text, without advanced formatting.
- Email: A customizable digital message using templates for branding and personalization.
- SMS: Short Message Service (text message) sent directly to a donor’s mobile phone.
- Handwritten Letters: AI-generated letters mailed to donors.
- In-Platform Messages: Messages visible in the donor portal, where you can respond via the chatbot in your dashboard.
- Plain Text Email: A simple email format that contains only text, without advanced formatting.
Step 3: Customize and Send
- Fill out the details for your message:
- For regular emails, text messages, handwritten letters, and in-platform messages, draft the content directly. Pull in variables contextualized to your supporters through the "@" sign.
- For templated emails, create the content directly in the email template editor. Pull in variables contextualized to your supporters through the "Merge Tags."
- Test your message:
- Use the preview feature to check content. You can preview content as a specific donor and the message will populate with dummy data from the donor's first transaction in our system.
- Send a test email to your own inbox if applicable.
- Save and send your message immediately, schedule your message to send with a delay, or link it to a trigger to send upon a specific donor action.
