Supporter Tags Guide

Supporter Tags in WeGive are a flexible tool used to segment donors and supporters into dynamic or static groups for targeting, communication, and reporting. Tags can be manually assigned or automatically applied based on rule-based criteria.

What Are Supporter Tags?

Supporter Tags are internal labels used to organize, filter, and group supporters in your database. You can use tags to:

  • Create dynamic audiences (e.g., all donors who gave less than $100)

  • Segment supporters for campaigns, messaging, or reporting

  • Trigger automations or journeys

  • Analyze engagement by tagged segments

How to Access and Create Tags

  1. Go to the Data tab in the WeGive dashboard.

  2. Select Supporter Tags.

  3. Click the “+” button to create a new tag.

In the Supporter Tag Table, you’ll see:

  • ID: Internal identifier for the tag.

  • Tag Name: The internal name you assign.

  • Supporter Count: How many supporters are currently tagged.

  • Automations Count: Number of automations tied to the tag.

  • Last Activity: Most recent time the tag was modified or updated.

You can also filter tags based on:

  • Active vs. Archived

  • Number of tagged supporters

  • Number of associated automations

  • Last activity date

Creating a Tag with Rules

When creating a tag, follow these steps:

  1. Name your tag: e.g., “Weekly Email List”
(This name is internal and should reflect the purpose of the segment.)

  2. Enable Dynamic Rules (optional):
Toggle the setting “Remove donors when they no longer match the rules” if you want the tag to update automatically.

  3. Add a Rule Group:

    • Click “Add Rule Group”

    • Choose a filter category (e.g., “Total Donated”)

    • Define the logic (e.g., Total Donated is less than $100)

    • Add as many conditions as needed across categories

  4. Examples of available filter fields include:

    • Supporter Info: Name, Email, Phone, Tags, Profile Created Date, Last Login

    • Payment & Giving: Total Donated, Number of Donations, Campaigns Given To, Designations

    • Fundraising: Fundraiser Name, Goal, Total Raised

    • Journey & Messaging: Associated Journeys, Communication Lists, Messages Sent

    • Transactional Activity: Last Checkout Date, Drop-off Step, Custom Field Data

    • Household & Personal Details: Address, Birthday, Anniversary, Marketing Contact status

  5. Click Done, preview the supporter list, and then click Save.

Processing may take a few minutes depending on the number of matching supporters.

Managing Tags and Viewing Tagged Supporters

Once your tag is created:

  • You'll be brought to the Tag Detail View, where you can:

    • See tag name and associated rule groups

    • View tagged supporters, including their:

      • Name

    • Remove selected supporters

    • Apply an additional tag

    • Refresh the supporter list

    • Edit the tag rules

    • Archive or Duplicate the tag from the “More” dropdown

Tags on the Supporter Record

Each supporter’s individual record includes a “Tags” section:

  • Tags appear at the top of the supporter record.

  • You can remove a tag by clicking the "X" next to it.

  • You can add a new tag using the “Actions” dropdown on the supporter profile.

Best Practices

  • Use clear naming conventions to keep tags organized.

  • Leverage dynamic rules for tags that should change based on behavior or giving.

  • Avoid tag clutter by archiving old or unused tags.

  • Use Supporter Tags in conjunction with Journeys, Messages, and Communication Lists to create highly personalized experiences.
