Understanding Your WeGive Test and Production Accounts

WeGive provides each organization with two types of accounts: a test account and a production account. Each account serves a unique purpose to ensure your organization's fundraising efforts run smoothly and efficiently. Below, we outline the key differences and best practices for using each account.

Test Account

Your test account is a sandbox environment designed for testing and experimentation. This is the perfect space to explore the platform and ensure everything functions as expected before going live.

Key Features of the Test Account

  • Safe Testing Environment: You can test creating transactions, supporters, checkouts, fundraisers, events, and more without affecting live data.

  • Payment Simulation: Transactions will not result in actual charges. Supporters will not be billed for any transactions made in the test account.

  • Mirrors Production: The test account is a replica of your production account, giving you a realistic environment to test configurations and workflows.

  • Integration Testing: The test account allows you to verify and troubleshoot integrations with other systems, ensuring smooth data flow and compatibility.

  • Emails Are Real: Emails triggered in the test account will send to the recipient’s inbox. Be cautious when using real email addresses during testing.

Best Practices for the Test Account

  1. Use dummy data for transactions and supporter details to avoid confusion with real data.

  2. Notify team members if you are testing with real email addresses to prevent misunderstandings.

Production Account

Your production account is your live environment where actual fundraising and supporter engagement take place. This is the account you use to process real transactions and manage your organization's live operations.

Key Features of the Production Account

  • Live Operations: All transactions, events, fundraisers, and other data in this account are real and affect actual supporter data.

  • Payment Processing: Supporters will be charged for any transactions completed in the production account.

Access Production or Test Account

To switch between your accounts, simply click on your name located in the top right corner of the screen, and then select "Change Login." You will easily identify your test account by the designated test icon.

Best Practices for the Production Account

  1. Double-check all settings, configurations, and content before making them live.

  2. Use real supporter information and accurate payment methods to maintain data integrity.

  3. Avoid testing in this account to prevent unintended charges or actions.

Important Reminder

While the test account is a safe environment for experimentation, real emails will be sent if triggered. Be cautious when testing email-related workflows and use placeholder or dummy email addresses where possible.

By understanding the distinction between these accounts and following best practices, you can make the most of WeGive’s platform and ensure a seamless experience for your supporters.
