Some email recipients using Gmail or other major email platforms may not always see an "Unsubscribe" link directly in the email header—even when WeGive includes the required unsubscribe information in the email's HTML.
Why This Happens
Email platforms like Gmail use proprietary algorithms to decide when and where to display enhanced unsubscribe options (such as the "Unsubscribe" link next to the sender name). This decision is not controlled by WeGive and can vary from user to user, based on:
-
User engagement: If the recipient rarely opens or interacts with emails from your organization, Gmail may not display the enhanced unsubscribe option.
-
Sender reputation: Gmail evaluates sender trustworthiness. If your domain or IP has a lower sender reputation, this feature may be disabled.
-
Email type: Promotional or marketing emails are more likely to trigger the enhanced unsubscribe link, whereas transactional emails may not.
-
Gmail's discretion: Ultimately, Gmail chooses whether to show it based on its own internal criteria. Even if the correct headers are in place, Gmail may still choose not to display the option.
✅ Important: WeGive automatically includes the correct
List-Unsubscribe
headers in all applicable emails. If the unsubscribe option doesn't appear, it is a limitation of the recipient’s email provider—not an issue with your email setup.
What You Can Do
-
Verify headers (for advanced users): You can view the raw email headers to confirm the
List-Unsubscribe
header is present. -
Instruct users to scroll down: WeGive also includes an unsubscribe link in the email footer, which is always available regardless of email client behavior.
-
Avoid deliverability issues: Keeping your sender reputation high (e.g., avoiding high bounce rates and spam complaints) can help ensure better display of unsubscribe features in Gmail.
If Gmail or another platform isn't showing the enhanced unsubscribe option, it's due to their internal logic—not a bug with your WeGive email.
